IPTV data reduction strategy to measure real users’ behaviours

However, the rapid evolution of features and services has brought a more complex offering to customers, which often are not enjoyed or even perceived. Therefore, it is important to measure the real advantage of those features and understand how they are used by customers. In this work, we present a strategy that deals directly with the real IPTV data, which result from the interaction actions with the set-top boxes by customers. But this data has a very low granularity level, which is complex and difficult to interpret. The approach is to transform the clicking actions to a more conceptual and representative level of the running activities. Furthermore, there is a significant reduction in the data cardinality, enhanced in terms of information quality. More than a transformation, this approach aims to be iterative, where at each level, we achieve a more accurate information, in order to characterize a particular behaviour. As experimental results, we present some application areas regarding the main offered features in this digital service. In particular, is made a study about zapping behaviour, and also an evaluation about DVR service usage. It is also discussed the possibility to integrate the strategy devised in a particular carrier, aiming to analyse the consumption rate of their services, in order to adjust them to customer real usage profile, and also to study the feasibility of new services introduction

Linux Based Ethernet Communication for Xilinx FPGAs

This article presents the implementation of an Ethernet communication platform for use on Xilinx FPGAs. The proposed solution relies on a synthesized embedded system to provide network data transfer and control capabilities, for use with synthesizable electronic devices. Most TCP/IP stack services and protocols were implemented and the design is flexible to allow adaptation and/or expansion for different application scenarios. Currently this platform is being used on the development of a FPGA based JTAG controller, with remote access. EOLES Course – Five Years of Remote Learning and Experimenting

The EOLES (Electronics and Optics e-Learning for Embedded Systems) course consists of a 3rd year Bachelor degree that relies exclusively on e-learning and remote laboratories, developed as the result of an EU funded ERASMUS+ project, involving 15 institutions from four European and three North African countries and concluded in 2015. This paper presents an overview and overall results for this initial period and a more detailed analysis of the Digital Systems Teaching Unit contents, pedagogical approach, grading methodology and results. The focus is on the unit specific characteristics and features, student and teacher experiences and the methodologies that were applied to enhance learning success. The Teaching Unit expositive material is provided as the student progresses, with progressive unlocking of content depending timeline and automatic quizzes results. Grading is divided between weekly assignments, an online exam at the end of each TU and a final exam at the end of the academic year. In short, students are allowed and encouraged to adjust their learning rhythm within the limits allowed by time restraints and evaluation criteria. The developed course was accredited as a specialization year in most partner institutions and has been running non-stop since then, mainly with students from North African institutions. Although no longer supported by an EU project, the course is a good example of sustainability as it already had 4 effective editions with successful approval rates and always with many more candidates than available vacancies.ERASMUS+info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Asma induzida pelo esforço: aspetos atuais e implicações das regulamentações anti-doping

Trabalho final de mestrado integrado em Medicina, apresentado à Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Coimbra.A Asma induzida pelo esforço (AIE) é uma das condições mais prevalentes nos atletas de elite, sendo um tema de preocupação para as organizações anti-doping, devido ao constante aumento das notificações para o uso de β2-agonistas e ao abuso de certas substâncias com o objetivo de melhorar a performance desportiva. Esta revisão tem o objectivo de fornecer uma visão sistematizada sobre os achados fisiopatológicos, além das abordagens diagnósticas e terapêuticas atualmente aplicadas num atleta que apresente dispneia relacionada com o esforço, particularmente nos que praticam desportos de alto nível. Conclui-se que é necessário mais estudos que clarifiquem os mecanismos fisiopatológicos subjacentes para que se consiga realizar uma abordagem diagnóstica e terapêutica mais eficaz.Exercise Induced Asthma (EIA) is one of the most prevalent conditions seen on elite athletes. It is also an anti-doping organization problem due to the constant β2-agonist notification raising and substance abuse. This revision aims to give a systematic view of the physiopathologic findings, diagnostic and therapeutic management applied on this days on the elite athlete with exercise dyspnea. We conclude that more advanced physiopathologic pathways studies are necessary, so then it will be possible to achieve a better diagnostic and therapeutic management

Sistema colaborativo para a identificação de cultivares de camélia

Mestrado em Engenharia de Computadores e TelemáticaCamellia cultivar identification is difficult due to the lack of complete, systematic information about the more than 20,000 registered cultivars, and cannot be achieved through disjointed individual efforts. This dissertation describes a collaborative platform for camellia cultivar identification harnessing the capabilities of modern information and communication technologies. The strategy proposed is based on the crowdsourcing concept. The entries on this system originate in cultivar identification requests submitted online. The system is equipped with a register of cultivar names. Through cultivar identification quizzes presented online, it gradually collects responses to the requests. Simultaneously, based on the performance of quiz respondents, the system applies metrics to establish their reputation and weigh their answers accordingly to calculate the probability of a specimen belonging to a given cultivar. User requests can be answered with a quantifiable degree of certainty according to the number of answers, their agreement and the reputation of each respondent.A identificação de cultivares de camélia é difícil devido à falta de informação completa e sistemática sobre os mais de 20 000 cultivares registados, e não pode ser alcançada através de esforços individuais desconexos. Esta dissertação descreve uma plataforma colaborativa para a identificação de cultivares de camélia, aproveitando as capacidades das tecnologias de informação e comunicação actuais. A estratégia proposta é baseada no conceito de crowdsourcing. Os registos neste sistema têm origem em pedidos de identificação de cultivares enviados online. O sistema está equipado com um registo de nomes de cultivares. Através de questionários de identificação apresentados online, o sistema recolhe, gradualmente, as respostas aos pedidos de identificação. Simultaneamente, com base no desempenho dos participantes dos questionários, o sistema aplica métricas para estabelecer a sua reputação e pesar as suas respostas no cálculo da probabilidade de um espécime pertencer a um determinado cultivar. Avaliação do risco clinico em enfermagem de saúde mental e psiquiátrica da infância e adolescência

Mestrado, Enfermagem de Saúde Mental e Psiquiatria, 2014, Escola Superior de Enfermagem de LisboaO relatório de estágio surge no âmbito do Curso de Pós Licenciatura de Especialização em Enfermagem de Saúde Mental e Psiquiátrica que integra o Curso de Mestrado em Enfermagem vertente de saúde mental, visando o desenvolvimento e consolidação de competências específicas do enfermeiro especialista em enfermagem de saúde mental. O Risco Clínico, ou a probabilidade de ocorrência de qualquer efeito adverso (Fragata,2006) que tenha impacto sobre o cliente alvo de cuidados, em contexto de saúde mental (Department of Health 2007; Allnut,S. et.al., 2010) é matéria emergente nos serviços de saúde em geral e de saúde mental em particular, apresentando-se, ao nível da investigação em enfermagem, como uma zona de disponibilidade heurística a ser explorada. Os enfermeiros da Unidade de Internamento de Psiquiatria da Infância e Adolescência (UIPIA), despertos para os riscos que a criança/ adolescente apresenta no momento de admissão, associado às transições de saúde – doença, desenvolvimento e situacional que vive, coloca-a num contexto de vulnerabilidade acrescida onde o julgamento clinico desenvolvido na avaliação carece de instrumentos clínicos que suportem os riscos identificados. Na pesquisa efetuada de instrumentos de Avaliação do Risco Clínico (ARC), a escala GRiST, desenvolvida no Reino Unido, surgiu como um dos instrumentos específicos para esta avaliação e direcionado para a faixa etária dos clientes da UIPIA. Assim, o estágio hospitalar, para além do desenvolvimento das competências específicas do enfermeiro especialista em saúde mental (EESM), constituiu-se como ponto de partida para o início do processo de adaptação cultural do instrumento de ARC GRiST, bem como, na realização de um estudo prévio de avaliação dos indicadores desta escala. De março a maio de 2014 foram realizadas trinta ARC às crianças/adolescentes admitidas na UIPIA tendo sido avaliados os indicadores de risco de Agressividade (Auto e Heteroagressividade);Suicídio; Auto-negligência; e Vulnerabilidade. Por seu turno o estágio Comunitário consistiu na promoção e desenvolvimento de competências específicas do EESM, com maior incidência nas intervenções psicoterapêuticas e socioterapêuticas desenvolvidas em contexto de grupo

Representação de redes semânticas de termos biomédicos

Mestrado em Engenharia de Computadores e TelemáticaOs recentes avanços tecnológicos têm sido de importância preponderante na evolução da biologia e da biomedicina. A aplicação de métodos computacionais na integração de dados e na análise de resultados experimentais de natureza biológica tem permitido expandir o conjunto de associações conhecidas entre diferentes termos biomédicos. No entanto, o conhecimento encontra-se disperso sobre inúmeras bases de dados independentes. Através da integração de diferentes tipos de termos biomédicos e das suas associações numa única vista, obtém-se um quadro mais abrangente e globalizado que permita extrair evidências biomoleculares relevantes. Representando uma rede de termos biomédicos através de grafos, é possível transportar os conhecimentos matemáticos dessa teoria e aplicá-los na área da bioinformática. Esta dissertação teve como objetivo fundamental desenvolver uma plataforma Web que, através da integração de dados biológicos, permita a visualização, o estudo e a compreensão das relações entre doenças, genes e outros elementos/termos biomédicos. Este sistema disponibiliza uma série de métodos e ferramentas computacionais que visam dar resposta a este problema.Computer science and informatics have proved to be of overriding importance on the recent evolution of biology sciences. The integration of data, the analysis of experimental results and the application of several other computational methods have made possible to expand the set of well-known associations between different biomedical terms. However, this knowledge is spread over several independent databases. By merging the different types of biomedical terms and the associations between them, into a single network, it’s attainable to get a very inclusive big picture which allows the extraction of relevant biomolecular evidences. Representing networks of biomedical terms through graphs, it’s possible to carry the mathematical findings in graph theory and apply them in bioinformatics. The fundamental objective of this dissertation was to develop a Web platform that, through the integration of biological data, enables to visualize, to study and to understand the relationships between diseases, genes and other biomedical terms. This system provides a variety of different computational tools and methods that were designed to address this problem

XIV Conference on Technology, Teaching and Learning of Electronics

Livro de atas da TAEE2020.A conferencia TAEE conhecerá na sua 14ª edição um momento histórico. Não só é a primeira vez que a será organizada fora do território Espanhol, como terá lugar a verdadeiramente pioneira experiência de realizar esta conferência num formato puramente virtual no Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto. Esta opção representa a solução possível para um evidente problema mundial, que surgiu de forma repentina durante a preparação desta edição. Optamos por aplicar a típica abordagem de engenharia, instintivamente encarando este novo problema como uma verdadeira oportunidade, e aproveitando as limitações impostas para experimentar novas soluções para novas questões. Tentamos criar uma TAEE diferente, não melhor nem pior, mas indo buscar proveitos às tecnologias de comunicação emergentes de forma a criar e dinamizar um evento onde não estaremos fisicamente juntos, mas poderemos comunicar e conviver de forma virtual. A grande motivação da TAEE será sempre os visíveis entrosamentos, dedicação e motivação da comunidade e serão estes fatores que permitirão o sucesso nesta nova forma de estarmos e trabalharmos juntos, mas à distância.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
